Chinese Democracy
Chinese Democracy is the name of the long-awaited sixth studio album by the hard rock band Guns N' Roses. When released, it will be the band's first album of original studio material since the simultaneous release of Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II in 1991.
If you had read somewhere that there's a singer of a band who 'took over' the band name and is working on an album with an entirely new band, and it's taking $15 millions and 10 years to complete it - you would think the scenario is quite lame. What might change your opinion is the fact that the singer is none other than one of the most genius and enigmatic rock & roll frontmen and perfectionists of all time...
AXL ROSE! He is, was and will always be the cutting edge of music. His band now is composed of such individually great musicians, you wouldn't think they could work together as well as they do. Doing this album was a lengthy process, because Axl liked to take all the members of the band and get the best out of each guy for each song.
Also, the project went through a lot of abuse; some of the members left unexpectedly and put other things in priority. Also, there were outside disturbances such as lawsuits about secondary bullshit coming in.
Axl also took a shot at the record company. He criticized them for the fact that newer bands get a lot more support than longer contracted ones. He was also not happy that they decided to release a Greatest Hits album which upset all plans about releasing Chinese Democracy.
Years passed, but their commitment to it is no less than before. So much time and work went into it, even now in its finishing phase they want to make sure everything is done right. Fans need to keep in mind that Axl wants to make the best possible he can, and he does not care how long it takes, as this album will be his legacy.
What can be expected? Axl has a set of amazing players from different genres backing him up and they have all worked very hard on this album. Dizzy says to expect a pretty intense musical journey, that takes you to some really interesting musical places. Tommy calls the new songs 'earth shattering', lauds Axl's lyrics and says it touches on a lot of different elements of old Guns N' Roses in some ways, and in other ways it touches with more current-sounding music. Brian May, Moby, Sebastian Bach (just to name a few) have all talked how amazing Axl's voice is on the album. Zakk Wylde alluded some of the songs he heard sounded like Appetite For Destruction on steroids. Axl’s lyrics are said to have deeper meaning than on past albums.
I believe Chinese Democracy is going to showcase the new bands diversity and could still be talked about years from now much like Appetite For Destruction is still proclaimed as being just as fresh today as it was 15 years ago.
